Search Engine Development
The Client: Kaboose.com (Now a Disney Corporation)
The Need
Kaboose requested the consulting services of Mediaboot to create the world's first family friendly search engine. We applied our special expertise to fulfill the contract to build the world's first, family-friendly search engine in 2003, and consulted with Kaboose to help build their infrastructure in project management methodology, and team building up until 2005, prior to their public offering.
The Solution
Mediaboot sourced the development team, created the project plan, developed and deployed the solution for their search engine concept. The aggressive timeline required Mediaboot developers to work on-site for a period of 4 months. We continually worked
with Kaboose to establish their search engine application and adjust its functionality to support ongoing business needs.
The Results
The world's first search engine application supporting banned content filters, online ad management, directory support and a fully functional
administration area with multi-level permissions in order to support delegation of tasks and directory management. In addition to completing the project on time and on budget, Kaboose extended our contract for nearly two years as we lead the internal development of games, marketing and advertising campaigns and team development.
Mediaboot developed the proprietary technology which integrated linux, MS Sequel Server 2000, .net and .php. The unique
mix of technologies awarded Kaboose government re-embursement through SRDC funds, for contributing to the development of Canadian technology and strategy.
The cross section of technologies also enabled full integration of the search appliance with the existing Kaboose system architecture.
Shortly after Mediaboot's involvement Kaboose was acquired by Walt Disney Corporation.
Distance Education
The Client: The Learning Library
The Need
The learning library need to lower the cost of producing their online courses while also expanding the reach of their courses into different markets.
The Solution
Mediaboot's consulting and development team automated design and content creation processes to speed up production of course content. During this process
the Learning Library expanded the functionality of the course delivery system to include publishing courses onto cd-roms, and pring
material. Mediaboot managed the changing requirements through CRP (Change Request Processes) in order to manage the timeline and stake holder expectations, while still delivering valued services throughout the project.
The Results
Mediaboot helped The Learning Library revolutionize the elearning deployment industry by offering the
fastest, easiest and most effective way for educators to deliver online courses.
Specifically, Mediaboot reduced The Learning Library course production time from 3 weeks/course to less than one hour.
This was achieved by automating course production using a MSWord document as the content aggregate system and
converting it into the course format in literally seconds. Mediaboot used Flash, XML and custom components
to create a scalable elearning platform that integrated with the TLL course delivery architecture. Now
educators, speakers or companies can...
- Publish courses to the web, cd-rom or book - instantly!
- Deliver flash, video, simulations and quizzes to enhance learning
- Offer trackable interactive learning to subscribers
- Fully brand the course delivery system, including logo and organization colours
- Offer corporate training across networks and track results
Software Deployment
The Client: Global Contract
Founded in 1991 Global Contract is a vertically integrated manufacturer. Under the Global Contract marketing banner we take to market Boulevard ® systems designed for the high quality value oriented customer. We produce seating in all product categories from highly designed stacking chairs task chairs and wood seating to high end custom show wood and lounge seating. We offer full Grade A lines of filing and storage. Rounding out our product offerings are two full line casegoods companies: Descor a leader in high quality value priced wood casegoods and tables and Snyder a company that has a long history of producing high quality casegoods and tables as well as custom wood and upholstered seating products.
The Need:
Global Contract needed to effectively distribute their library of AutoCAD office product designs on a quarterly or bi-annual base. Internet distribution was not an option due to the large file sizes of their AutoDesk designs.
The Solution:
Mediaboot designed a multi-platform installation cd to integrate Global contract`s library of office furniture designs with their distributors databases and AutoCAD programs. The final installation package maintained the Global contract brand through visual messaging and ensured data integrity by verifying files were installed properly.
The Results:
Mediaboot repeatedly designed and produced cd installation software and updates for Global Contract since 2001. As collaboration continued, we worked with GC to transfer knowledge and skillsets so their internal teams could produce and distribute the software packages internally. It was a great project that ended in even greater returns for both parties.
Website Design and Development
The Client: Birthday in a Box
The Need
Birthday in a Box required a Web site redesign which included new functionality to be integrated with Microsoft Site Server.
They were wrestling with changing requirements, design modifications and a lack of process. The project was delayed,
and eventually came to a halt.
The Solution
We worked with the Birthday-in-a-Box team to solidify the scope of the project, provide project management and production methodology
and lead the development of the new site.
The Results
The new Birthday-in-a-Box site was redesigned and launched within 3 months.
The usability of the site and the ordering process was improved. The changes
were a key factor contributing to an increase in revenue of over 300% within the first four months from re-launch.
Specifically, we worked closely with the development team at Birthday-in-a-Box while taking over the management of the design process.
We identified the scope, resources, timeline and methodology for the project and implemented the solution with the Birthday-in-a-Box team.
